The short version: Bot Bait (operated by Nurik LLC) has no accounts and wants no names. Game conversations are recorded under a random id that is tied to nothing about you. There are no ads, no third-party analytics, no cross-site tracking, and we do not sell or share personal information with anyone.
Your streak, stats, and today's conversation live in your browser's local storage, on your device. We cannot see them. Clearing your browser data erases them, which is also the only way they ever leave.
When you send a message in the game, it travels through our server to Anthropic, whose model generates the reply, under their commercial terms. We keep a record of game conversations: what you typed, what the AI answered, the puzzle number, and whether the attempt worked, filed under your random player id. We use this record to tune puzzles, to catch cheating, and as an anonymous research dataset about how people persuade AI models, which may be shared or licensed as part of the business. It is never tied to your name, because we never have your name. Even so, treat the chat like a postcard: type game moves, not personal information.
Want your conversations deleted? Your player id is shown at the bottom of the Your record screen in the game. Email it to us and we will delete the records filed under it.
To know whether the game is any good, we count plays first-party. Your browser gets a
random id (a string like a3f9…, stored in local storage, tied to nothing
about you), and it sends us tiny events: the game was opened, a run started, a run
finished and whether it was won, in how many turns and characters, and that a share
button was used. Opens also record which site linked you here, if any. Our server adds
the time and a scrambled one-way code derived from the network address, kept only to
filter out fake traffic. None of it names you, and we use it only in aggregate.
Signing in is optional and exists for one reason: so your streak and record can follow you across browsers and devices. If you sign in, we store your email address and the link between it and your random player ids. Your email is used to send you sign-in links and for nothing else: no newsletters, no marketing, never shared or sold. A single first-party cookie keeps you signed in on devices where you chose to sign in; it does no tracking. To close an account and delete its email, write to us from that address.
If you send in a puzzle idea, we keep what you typed: the phrase, any banned words, and the credit name if you chose to give one. Use a nickname; the form says so too.
Like nearly every website, our host keeps standard technical logs (addresses, request paths, timestamps) for a short time to run and secure the service.
Bot Bait is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
